Garun-Paysanne, a French cooperative based at Hénansal, in the Brittany region, held its annual General Assembly last week. The Group closed a record 2022-23 financial year with growth in turnover and profits.
The cooperative increased its turnover by 28.9%, from €163 last year to €211 million this year. Garun-Paysanne counts 2,200 members and 168 employees. It has several brands covering various sectors (agronomy, grain collection, distribution, animal health).
The animal feed sector turnover amounted to €190.5 million (75% of total cooperative turnover by activity).
Annual feed production at its three plants has grown constantly over the last 5 years reaching an all-time high of 428,000 tonnes this year (44% for cattle, 36% for pigs and 20% for poultry) with a significant increase in sales, despite the slowdown in the Brittany local market (-4.8%).
The cooperative aims to continue its territorial expansion, moving from a cooperative specialised in animal nutrition to a broader offer. Sébastien Blot, the managing director, observed that “we're in a world that's going to change considerably and that's going to require partnerships, alliances, and restructuring. We need to anticipate the challenges... All the agricultural and agri-food sectors need to be monitored, there are changes underway and we need to know how to be positioned.”
