30 November 2020 - South Korea has confirmed that avian influenza strain H5N8 has been discovered at a duck farm in the southwestern province of North Jeolla, local media sources have reported.

The case was reported on Saturday during routine pre-shipment tests were carried out on duck carcasses from a farm in Jeongeup.

It is the first domestic case of bird flu detected in the country since March 2018.

The finding has prompted local government officials to order the culling of 19,000 ducks at the farm, as well as an additional 390,000 poultry across six farms within a 3km radius of the infected site.

A 10km intensive quarantine zone has been set up around the Jeongeup farm as a further preventative measure, banning the movement of people and animals from all poultry farms for a 21 day period.
