10 February 2022 - De Heus has reached an agreement to acquire Feijen Diervoeders, a family-owned feed producer based in Dalfsen, in the east of the Netherlands.
Feijen Diervoeders’ site in Dalfsen has an estimated production capacity is 85,000 tonnes/year; 65% of its production is pig feed and the other 35% is feed for cattle, report Dutch media sources. The location of the factory is seen to also offer extra flexibility in production options for De Heus.
“Six generations of Feijen, together with all our employees, have built the company into what it is today. A company that we are proud of and that we want to take to the next phase in a future-proof manner,” said company owners Ton and Richard Feijen in a letter.
“Ton indicated some time ago that he wanted to take a step back, after which Richard indicated that he did not want to continue the company alone. There are also no successors within the family. In addition, we are operating in a challenging time in which we expect a sharp decline in the Dutch livestock. In the rapidly changing market, flexibility and scale are important preconditions for meeting the demands of the market and society in the future. For the reasons mentioned above, we wanted to transfer Feijen's activities to a future-oriented animal feed company,” they added.
De Heus and Feijen Diervoeders will shortly be exploring synergies and how to connect the various business processes as closely as possible.
