Recent moves (in alphabetical order of company) include:

AB Vista has appointed Juan Ignacio Fernandez as its Managing Director, replacing Richard Cooper who has retired after 16 years in the role.

Fernandez, its former Sales Director for the EMEA region, took over the Managing Director role on 1st September.  He is an agriculture engineer by training with animal production specialisation and holds an MBA and qualifications in animal nutrition. He has over 25 years of experience in the industry, having worked for different feed additives companies before joining AB Vista in 2015.

Cooper has been synonymous with the AB Vista brand since its launch in 2005 and has taken the company from a start-up, to becoming a highly respected global player with top three market share positions in its core segments. He also oversaw the introduction of the Quantum Blue superdosing concept, which the company says is widely credited for bringing about a step change in phytase use.

Amlan International, which focusses on developing innovative solutions that improve livestock intestinal health and productivity, has appointed Fred H. Kao in a new role of Vice President of Global Sales.

The creation of this position further supports the company’s investment in the gut health product line for the global market, driven by increasing consumer demand for protein produced without antibiotics.

Kao has 20 years of expertise in building strong relationships with key integrators in the animal protein business. He has worked in Europe, Middle East, African and Asia Pacific regions since 2004, and most recently managed the Asia Pacific business unit for Cobb-Vantress Inc.

Prior to his work with Cobb-Vantress, Kao worked for more than 16 years for Aviagen Inc. where he managed a team of eight commercial and technical managers and more than doubled the responsible brand’s worldwide Parent Stock shares.

Kao is a 2000 graduate of the University of Arkansas, and is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese and competent in two other languages (Japanese and Spanish).

As part of a move to strengthen its ability to ship poultry breeding chicks to customers, global breeding company Aviagen has recently appointed Diane Hartjes as its new Global Director of Export and Logistics.

Under Hartjes’ leadership, her team will have responsibility for United States and United Kingdom exports, as well as global trade compliance and government relations. The focus will be to build processes based on internal and external best practices, with a goal of a seamless customer experience and real-time management of the export process.

Hartjes comes to Aviagen with a background in international supply chain and trade compliance expertise. Her most recent role was Vice President, Trade and Compliance, for a $4 billion U.S. retailer. She led the organization’s strategic compliance, sourcing and supply chain initiatives throughout Asia. Before that, she served in various positions of increasing responsibility, allowing her to develop functional expertise in import, global and domestic vendor management, strategic sourcing, contract negotiations, logistics management and forecasting.

Also within Aviagen, Jason Cormick has been appointed as Incubationist, supporting Aviagen customers across Asia Pacific. Based within the region, he will assist clients with his experience in hatchery management, broiler breeder production, quality assurance and animal welfare.

Originally, from Essex, UK, Cormick has worked in the poultry industry for the past 30 years, supporting farms and hatcheries in every generation of the breeding pyramid, from pedigree to broilers. During his 11 years as hatchery specialist for global incubator and hatchery equipment supplier Petersime, he developed a hatchery management training program, while also supporting customer operations.
