Japfa Comfeed India Pvt. Ltd. inaugurated a fully automated cattle feed plant in Supa Industrial Estate, Maharashtra, on 20 January.
Japfa Comfeed India has invested 400 million Indian rupees (approximately US$4.8 million) in establishing the factory, which has 120 direct employees.
The factory’s annual production capacity is 60,000 tonnes/year. Japfa Comfeed India already operates a poultry feed plant and an aqua feed plant in Kharagpur, West Bengal, which have production capacities of 540,000 tonnes/year and 90,000 tonnes/year respectively.
Appasaheb Kate, Senior General Manager – Feed Mill Operations at Japfa Comfeed India, informed Feedinfo that the main raw materials utilised in feed production at the new cattle feed plant are locally sourced, such as corn, rice bran meal, molasses, cottonseed meal, and rapeseed meal, whereas premixes such as vitamins and minerals are sourced from other regions.
Commenting on future prospects, Appasaheb Kate stated that Japfa Comfeed India has an ambitious expansion plan for the cattle feed business across the country. Following the launch of the factory in Supa Industrial Estate, the company plans to double capacity in the next 2–3 years. In line with this, Japfa Comfeed India is also planning to manufacture cattle feed in Uttar Pradesh and Odisha, perhaps as early as 2024.
