GreenFeed Vietnam Corp. is currently expanding its pig breeding and processing capacity. An International Finance Corporation (IFC) investment - through a seven-year bond - of VND 1,000 billion (approx. $43 million) is expected to help GreenFeed increase pig production capacity.

A GreenFeed spokesperson said that this 2022-2023 farm expansion project will focus on the Central Highland, North Central Coast, and Southeast regions.

Established in 2003, GreenFeed began as an animal and aqua feed business. It now has multiple feed mills across Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar.

The company spokesperson, however, said GreenFeed isn’t planning to build any more feed mills at this stage.

Instead, the company’s strategy will be geared toward developing what it describes as its “3F Plus” agricultural food chain (Feed - Farm - Food) project, which is at value chain integration.

“We are not just stopping at animal feed or swine breeding. GreenFeed strives to build and develop the 3F Plus agricultural food chain from farm to table. This model helps GreenFeed take advantage of available internal resources (Feed & Farm), such as feed solutions, breeds, and farm management to produce for the Food sector,” the spokesperson said.

In line with the strategy, GreenFeed has recently launched several food brands, including G Kitchen, Wyn, MAMACHOICE, etc. Simultaneously, in 2022, the company continued to diversify the portfolio by acquiring chicken supplier LeBoucher from Alain Glon Holding Asia. LeBoucher, a poultry supplier with a factory in the southern province of Long An, supplies chicken to McDonald’s Vietnam operations.

The spokesperson went on to say that the current farm expansion project will focus on high-yielding boar breeds, modernised rearing systems to optimise operating costs, and higher-quality products.

“Players in the agriculture and food industry face difficulties and challenges caused by fluctuations with high prices of imported raw materials, supply chain disruptions, the probability risk of future ASF outbreaks, Covid-19, etc. However, with the strong potential of the integrated solutions from feed to table, together with the extensive manufacturing and distribution systems, GreenFeed has set the target of preventing interruption to the value chain, accompanying customers and partners as a companion in this tough time, and ensuring product supply,” the spokesperson added.
