18 February 2022 - French startup ARBIOM, which makes feed proteins from forestry and agricultural residues, announced this week that it plans to launch construction on its first production unit this year.
Located in Auvergne Rhône Alpes, the future plant aims to make 10,000 tons of Sylpro® per year when it begins operations in 2024. Sylpro® is the result of a process that transforms low-value lignocellulose residues into a single-celled organism, a non-GMO yeast which ARBIOM says can replace fishmeal or soy-based ingredients in animal diets.
The investment was made possible by funding of EUR 12 million which ARBIOM received through the “France Relance” public investment and economic stimulus program. “This fundraising follows on from the success of the pilot program SYLFEED (a four-year project supported by Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking) which enabled the validation of a scaled-up production process as well as allowing partners and clients to validate the performance of Sylpro® in vivo,” asserted a company statement.
