10 June 2021- Elanco announced yesterday its plans to optimise its manufacturing footprint with the sale of sites in Shawnee, Kansas and Speke, UK, to Connecticut-based TriRx, a contract development and manufacturing organisation for the human health and veterinary markets.

The sites will continue to manufacture Elanco products under a long-term supply agreement.

“We are excited to transition these plants to a partner that has the capability to increase plant utilization, creating a stronger and more secure future for the team,” says David Urbanek, executive vice president of manufacturing and quality at Elanco.

The Speke, UK plant has long been part of the Ely Lilly/Elanco network, and traditionally focused on fermentation; meanwhile, the Shawnee, Kansas site had previously been the North American headquarters of Bayer Animal Health before its acquisition by Elanco.

Moreover, the company will also be closing down a legacy Bayer Animal Health manufacturing site in Belford Roxo, Brazil. According to Elanco, “the Belford Roxo site, which currently supplies six smaller, regional products, is expected to be decommissioned in early 2022,” with the production being moved to a manufacturing site in Santa Clara, Mexico and to a contract manufacturer in Brazil.
