As part of its expansion strategy, dsm-firmenich is set to open a new feed additives production facility in India this year, focusing on mycotoxin binders. Additionally, the company is exploring Sri Lanka as a potential future site.

According to the company, the India facility will primarily serve India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, complementing existing plants in Singapore and China. “This facility allows us to manufacture locally, ensuring better pricing and service for customers,” said Lu Yuan, Regional Vice President of Animal Nutrition & Health (ANH) for Greater APAC at dsm-firmenich.

Speaking to Expana at VIV Asia 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand, this week, Yuan highlighted the company’s focus on the region: “APAC is a different level of excitement for us.”

According to Yuan, Asia is the largest region globally for animal production, covering animal health, feed, and protein consumption and production. She noted that APAC plays a significant role in shaping global industry trends. One of the fastest-growing segments for dsm-firmenich in APAC is Precision Nutrition Services, driven by big data and AI-powered digital solutions. Performance Solutions, particularly specialty feed additives, is another high-growth area for the company.

Tariffs/China

Yuan acknowledged that trade policies are causing market pressures, notably in China.

“Tariffs on China create stress for some businesses. dsm-firmenich, being a global company, may face challenges in one region but benefit in another. For businesses heavily reliant on exports to a single market, these policies create significant uncertainty,” she noted.

In response, many Chinese companies are diversifying their portfolios by expanding into Southeast Asia. Yuan also highlighted the increasing number of suppliers emerging from China and the presence of major producers, which have intensified competition, innovation, and pricing strategies.
