13 December 2022 - Leading German compound feed producer H. Bröring GmbH & Co. KG (also known as Bröring Business Group) is planning to finalise the upgrade of its production site in Schöppingen in 2023, the company has said.
Bernd Bröring, Managing Director at Bröring, did not provide specifics, but told Feedinfo shortly after EuroTier that the focus of the site will be more on swine and poultry feed production.
“Over the last years we have continuously invested in our production facilities. With the latest feed mill finished in 2016, we have modern production sites that meet our high-quality expectations and fulfil the demand,” he also commented.
Also in 2023, Mr. Bröring said, Bröring and Big Dutchman will launch Havito, which they have jointly developed. The Havito birth-to-finish pig housing concept consists of the pigs remaining in the same structured pen in which they were born for the entire rearing and finishing period without being relocated.
“As for further business expansions we are looking for suitable European distribution partners to offer our solutions for young piglets,” Mr. Bröring added.
Bröring thus continues with its long-term strategic plans despite the tough market environment.
Like its peers in Germany, Bröring is naturally exposed to the high prices of raw materials, energy and the inflationary commodity environment.
Commenting on this, Mr. Bröring said: “[In addition to] the turbulent raw material markets and exploding energy costs we are affected by the impacts of African swine fever and avian influenza which keep the industry in a constant alert status. The livestock sector in Germany is facing a transformative time and the current uncertainty about the future together with growing regulations leaves farmers in a difficult position.”
“With energy being one of the main production factors for compound feed we are working constantly on new solutions like renewable energies from photovoltaics together with energy saving solutions,” he added.
In the marketing year 2021/22, Germany’s feed industry (consisting of 281 feed producers) manufactured approximately 22.86 million tonnes (pig feed was recorded at around 9 million tonnes, poultry feed at 6.36 million tonnes, and cattle feed at 6.5 million tonnes). For the 2022 calendar year, however, total feed production in Germany is expected to fall by 4-5%, according to estimates by the German Feed Association (DVT).
The market is largely dominated by different cooperatives, the biggest being AGRAVIS, which produced 3.2 million tonnes of compound feed in 2021.
Bröring is not far behind with an estimated 2 million tonnes of feed produced, Mr. Bröring said.
Founded in 1891, Bröring is also the biggest owner-managed producer in Germany. The company operates nine different production sites and has approximately 760 employees.
