Interview with Global Bio-chem Technology - Introduction Page

Feedinfo News Service ( dated 26/11/2007)

In August, Global Bio-chem Technology (GBT) made the headlines when a Dutch court declared it was guilty of infringing two L-Lysine patents owned by rival Ajinomoto. The ruling stipulated that the infringement must cease immediately.

The decision from The Hague Patent Court resonated around the feed additives market and, as customers struggled with the consequences of the ruling, GBT’s handling of the situation was questioned.

The resulting controversy saw some European customers raise concerns over GBT’s role as a responsible global player. Industry insiders talked about poor communication and unanswered questions that appeared to create an environment of mistrust and frustration.

In a bid to find these answers and give Global Bio-chem Technology Ltd the opportunity to clarify its position, Feedinfo News Service travelled to China for a hard-hitting and challenging interview with senior management from the country's leading lysine producer.

Key issues discussed include :

"Now we are studying Ajinomoto's patent in each EU country where it has patents... if they sue us, for example in Germany, we will take action against them. "
