Novus International's Global Outlook for Methionine: The Next Decade

15 June 2010 - The demand for protein has risen rapidly over the past ten years and will continue to increase over the next decade. When comparing all sources of protein, poultry is the most efficient, economical source on earth.

Poultry will grow at a higher rate than the protein industry as a whole over the next decade because of the lower production cost per kg and the lower consumer price point. Methionine is beneficial as a feed supplement across the spectrum of livestock production, but particularly in the poultry segment.

These predictions were recently published by Novus International, Inc. in a white paper entitled: "Methionine Global Outlook: The Next Decade".

In this white paper, Novus International studies the patterns of global animal protein demand and how they will be impacted by factors such as population growth, income changes, raw material issues and food policy.

Dr. Giovanni Gasperoni

Feedinfo News Service spoke to Novus International's Executive Vice President of Marketing and Sales, Dr. Giovanni Gasperoni about the white paper and discussed some of the main growth drivers for Methionine consumption.

(Feedinfo News Service) - Dr. Gasperoni, why did Novus International believe it was necessary to produce this white paper?

(Giovanni Gasperoni) - We thought it was necessary to provide a clear and concise view of the main market drivers for protein needs and ultimately methionine needs over the next decade.

In my experience, I have been asked many times, wherever I travel, to give presentations on protein and Methionine demand. This is because a lot of people do not make the link.

To some extent every single feed additive is covered by this paper and we wanted to give a broader view of our business to people in our business. We tried to be both simple and effective so everyone could grasp the concepts.

This paper is addressed, not only to the other feed additive producers and premixers, but to the entire food chain. Information in this paper is relevant to people involved in the chain regardless of location. We tried to put everything into perspective and demonstrate the key role that methionine has.
